US Is Too Reliant On Oil For Transportation, Says DOE
The Department of Energy's new report assesses the status of energy research in the US. Considering that the US has significant domestic supplies of coal and gas, along with a growing portfolio of solar, wind and other alternative technologies for generating grid power, an increasingly significant gap is transportation, which relies predominately on oil. The report recommends a focus on improving the efficiency of hybrids and plug-in vehicles as the near-term goal; as compared to alternative energy sources such as fuel cells and biofuels.
