Hampton Howmet Attends Make an Impact Green Fair in Full Force
An incredible 81% of Hampton’s Alcoa Howmet employees participated in the launch of the Make an Impact program on August 3. Almost 600 people from three shifts heard money and energy savings tips from the Make an Impact team and several community representatives.
“Our Hampton team was really interested in all the tips shared during the green fair and asked questions specific to their situation,” said Bob Baker, facility manager. “It was great that folks had the opportunity to learn about their own carbon footprint by trying the carbon calculator right here, on site. Not only do they see the energy savings, but money savings too – even hundreds of dollars.”
Local organizations such as Hampton Roads Sanitation District, the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Waste Management, the Department of Environmental Quality, Traffix, the City of Hampton Cooperative Extension, NuRide, City of Hampton Clean City Commission and Virginia Grown also came out to share community resources to help employees learn more about everything from composting and organic gardening to recycling and saving the Chesapeake Bay. All of the vendors had specific recommendations to help participants take a more active role in their energy choices.
Alcoa Foundation has partnered with the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions to mobilize individual action on climate change and set a goal of saving 6 million lbs of CO2. Since its launch in September 2008, the program has helped Alcoa families and neighbors identify close to $1 million in energy savings - the equivalent of 2.5 million pounds of CO2.
