Alcoans Celebrate America Recycles Day in Alcoa, TN

On the eve of America Recycles Day, more than 250 Alcoans and their families celebrated the launch of Make an Impact in Alcoa, TN highlighted by tours of the aluminum recycling facility -- one of the largest recycling facilities in the world.

“Launching Make an Impact here in Alcoa has a special meaning, not only because of where we work but also because America Recycles Day is of great importance to us,” said Beth Schmitt, Director of Recycling for Alcoa. “Make an Impact will help us carry our message of efficiency to our employees, their families and the community.”

Several community vendors participated in the event providing Alcoans with helpful local resources, including: Lowes, Maryville Farmers’ Market, Keep Blount Beautiful, City of Alcoa Utilities and Ijams Nature Center.

“We really enjoyed all the vendors and how the event segued into the plant tours. Our family and friends got to see the different things Alcoa is doing as part of their sustainability efforts,” said David Miles, Finishing. “Learning about the Make an Impact program was great because it gets the family involved and saves us money!”

Alcoans also put their creative caps on and designed three Christmas trees made of recycled aluminum cans. This tree will be showcased at Knoxville McGhee Tyson Airport with a message about the importance of aluminum can recycling. For more tips on aluminum recycling go here
