Point Comfort Goes Green!
Over 600 Alcoa employees, families and neighbors learned how to reduce their impact on the environment when Point Comfort opened its doors for the first time in 10 years – holding a hugely successful Green Open House on Saturday March 6!
Families learned how to save money on energy costs through the Make an Impact program, saw the Pt Comfort refinery’s environmental initiatives up close through ‘clean’ plant tours, and learned about recycling, nature conservation and being water wise at the green marketplace!
Representatives from the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions were on hand to help families analyze their personal carbon footprint using the Make an Impact calculator and share information on how to save money and save the planet.
Point Comfort Operations Manager Allen Ness said Make an Impact fits perfectly with the location’s focus on environmentally-friendly operations, energy conservation, and employee awareness to go green at home and at work.
Alcoa Foundation has partnered with the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions to mobilize individual action on climate change. Since its launch in September 2008, the program has helped Alcoa families and neighbors identify close to $1 million in energy savings - the equivalent of 2 million pounds of CO2!
