Tucson Makes an Impact

This August, Arizona experienced the hottest August on record since 1896, the first year that weather records were kept in the state, according to the National Weather Service.  Average high temperatures for the month were 109 degrees, surpassing the previous record of 107.3 from nearly a half century ago. With this, came high utility bills as residents tried to keep their homes and workplaces at cool temperatures.

On October 20, Alcoa launched the Make an Impact program at the Alcoa Fastening Systems plant in Tucson to help employees reduce their utility bills by saving energy. All 145 employees attended the workshops led by the Make an Impact team, and learned tips and tools that will help them save energy and money, while doing positive things for the community and the planet.

“Our employees are very active in our community,” said Laurinda MacKinnon, the plant manager in Tucson. “Today they learned about valuable Make an Impact resources that they can take to their families and friends to help everyone save energy and reduce their carbon footprint.”
